Growing up in Malaysia, Australia and Hong Kong, Sala went to Bristol University to study law. Sala qualified as a solicitor in 1995 in London and returned to Hong Kong and was admitted in Hong Kong in 1996. She worked as a criminal litigator before moving inhouse and working at an Asian investment bank, a European investment bank and finally on the trading floor at a US investment bank.
In 2011, Sala left banking and completed an LLM at Pepperdine in Dispute Resolution and returned to Hong Kong to practice as a mediator. Sala has been working primarily as a family mediator in Hong Kong since 2014. Sala teaches as an adjunct lecturer at the University of Hong Kong and is a faculty member for the Financial Times Board Director Programme.
Why do I want to be a family supervisor?
My LLM was life-changing for me. I learnt that there were options to deal with conflict and that skills could make a real difference. All of this was a revelation. I decided that my priority was to work on pain reduction. As a family law supervisor, I want to support the lawyers who are supporting families. Family mediators benefit from supervision so I know the value of having a safe, non-judgmental space.
