William Kaye – Profile
I am a specialist family lawyer with almost 30 years of experience and a specialism in collaborative family law practice. I have worked in senior roles (Partner/HOD level) in large regional practices but am now, out of choice, in a self-employed consultancy position which enables me to do the work I enjoy and maintain a good work/life balance.
My route into the world of supervision arose from my own experience of the high toll practising family law can take. In 2019 I experienced horrible burn out and had to take some time away from work. During my recovery I discovered the existence of supervision which was truly a light bulb moment. If I had known about and received the benefit of supervision, I have no doubt that I would not have endured that experience.
Being a lawyer is a high pressure role. Being a family lawyer brings with it heightened challenges. We are not only dealing with the law, professional expectations, targets etc but also exposure to raw human emotions day after day. This can, and does, take its toll. If we are to enjoy a long and heathy career in practice that must be managed and supported appropriately. This is the effective ‘safety release valve’ that supervision can provide.
